Under the recommendations section this week, I suggest watching the limited series on Netflix – “Ripley”. It is based on the 1955 novel – “The Talented Mr. Ripley” by Patricia Highsmith. I haven’t had a chance to read the book yet (which I intend to change very soon). The series though was released in April 2024.

Ripley is a psychological thriller that revolves around the main character – Tom Ripley. Tom is an almost bankrupt con artist, who manages to land in Italy through a game of crime and deceit. The series follows his excursions in Italy where he successfully manipulates his way around. Andrew Scott, the actor playing Ripley, is exceptional in portraying the scheming, persuasive and meticulous traits of the main character.

The entire series is in Black & White. The camera angles, sound and exemplary acting by everyone hooks you on from the very first frame. I loved the slow pace of the series and the intricacies of the characters and each of its scenes.

The direction, acting and cinematography are seamlessly integrated. There are 8 episodes of varying duration 45 minutes per episode with the finale being the longest at 76 minutes.

If you like slow-paced thrillers then you will find Ripley interesting. The Black & White mode can take some time to get accustomed to. But once you’re past it, you’ll end up appreciating the style.

So if you are a sucker for thrillers ,which I most definitely am, then go ahead and give “Ripley” a shot. If you haven’t already i.e.

Happy viewing !
